Cold Climates and Ice Dams Winter storms can bring ice damage, hail damage, frozen pipes and ice damming. Combined with wind damage, these can cause roof leaks, requiring expensive roof repairs. Place the heat tape or flashing on the problem areas of your roof to keep the snow melting into the rain gutters.
